Mantine used Aqua Ring by Yggdrassal

Yggdrassal from the United States is an active part of the Game-Art-HQ Community since around three years now and contributed a good couple of video game artworks that are about games that are rarely getting any attention now.

He participated with a Timesplitters 3 entry as example and Rocket: Robots on Wheels as part of our Nintendo 64 Tribute this year. He joined the Pokémon Gen I Tribute with Dodrio in the first May week already and drew seven more of the little Gen I creatures. He also holds the record of the most submissions for our Gen II Pokemon tribute with not less than 11 of the 100 Pokemon being illustrated by him!

I recommend to check out his gallery where you can see a lot more video game fan art including more Pokémon love as well.

Aqua Ring

“The user envelops itself in a veil made of water. It regains some HP every turn”

While it does not deal any damage, the Aqua Ring can be a very useful move that works like a Regen in Final Fantasy and heals around 1/16 of the HP of the casting Pokemon at every turn.

Aqua Ring was introduced in the Gen. V Pokemon games. And four of the currently 251 Pokemon in our Tribute are using it 🙂

Mantine used Hydro Pump by TamarinFrog

TamarinFrog aka Tammy from Finland is a Game-Art-HQ member since years already and participated in many of our art collaborations before she joined the Pokemon Tribute in 2016 with Mankey. In 2017 she continued to take the Ape-like Pokemon with Aipom but also took the very different Mantine eventually.

Have a look at her whole gallery there on dA!

Hydro Pump

“The foe is blasted by a huge volume of water launched under great pressure”

vaporeon-used-hydro-pump

Hydro Pump is a strong damage dealing Water-Type attack with no side effects at all. It is one of the strongest Water-Type attacks in general and the first Pokemon in the Pokedex that can learn it through levelling is the Squirtle!

Hydro Pump was used by five Pokemon in our Tribute so far, with Blastoise being the first one!

#226 Mantine

“On sunny days, schools of Mantine can be seen elegantly leaping over the sea’s waves. This Pokémon is not bothered by the Remoraid that hitches rides”

Mantine is one of the few Water /Flying Type Pokemon and can only evolve from Mantyke if a Remoraid was in the same party. Yes, evolution can be complicated sometimes ;P

This Pokemon is obviously based on a Manta Ray that almost looks like it is flying though the sea instead of swimming. The Mantine looks similar when you see it flying. But whats the purpose of the Remoraid there under its wing?

A Mantine appeared in the Pokemon movie ‘Spell of the Unown’ as a Pokemon that Molly Hale dreamed up in Entei’s dream world. She used Mantine to Battle against Misty in an underwater battle against her Staryu.
