Athena Asamiya is a quite old game character already and debuted as the main protagonist in Psycho Soldier by SNK back in 1986 already. She is a descendant of Athena who got her own game before and a few later as well and really went more popular in 1994 when Athena joined the King of Fighters’94 roster with her friends Chin and Kensou to form the Psycho Soldiers / China Team. Athena Asamiya returned in all following King of Fighters games and also Spinoff games like SNK Heroines Tag Team Frenzy (2018) while her team members changed multiple times, a unique feature of her was that she got new costumes /designs /sprites with almost every new game. Sometimes she looks very cute or innocent, in other games she is quite sexy looking. Athena also made it into Capcom vs SNK 2 and almost all KOF Spinoff games. In 1999 she got a new game again where she is the main protagonist with Athena: Awakening from the Ordinary Life. This three-disc spanning RPG / Adventure was sadly only released in Japan for the PSX. In the King of Fighters games, Athena Asamiya has own theme songs often with vocals about her and the Psycho Soldiers. Psycho Soldier from 1986 was actually the first video game that had a soundtrack with vocals. |
