The Game Boy, launched in 1989 was one of the first mobile video game consoles and saw support for around 10 years, with the last GB compatible games released in 2001 and a ton of commercially successful games. From Tetris and Super Mario Land in 1989 to the latest success stories like Pokemon Yellow the Game Boy was basically THE handheld during the nineties and there was a time where just everyone had one.

Beside the first 151 Pokemon’s, a few other still somewhat relevant game characters first seen on the Game Boy are Firebrand who became a playable character in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 (2011) and of course Kirby who still gets new games since he debuted over 20 years ago in Kirby’s Dream Land on the Game Boy.
