Arc System Works is a Japanese Video Game Developer Studio that was founded in 1988 already and ported games and worked mostly on ports of games like Battletoads for the Sega Systems but also developed a few games like the racing game Cyber Spin (1992) for the SNES.  

Arc System Works started to become more popular in 1998 with their 2d fighting game Guilty Gear that was developed exclusive for the Sony Playstation. Today they are mostly known as one of the last 2d fighting game developers out there. Their game series Guilty Gear and BlazBlue became relative popular, and they created a good handful of other fighting games based on series by other developers like Sengoku Basara, Persona and the Fist of the North Star Manga during the Playstation 3 /XB360 Generation

Today they are also publishing games like Skullgirls 2nd Encore in Japan, released the super successful Dragon Ball Z Fighters, BlazBlue Cross Battle and have another new Guilty Gear in the pipeline as well as Granblue Fantasy Versus. 

 

Arc System Works is responsible for quite a lot creative fighting game characters like Arakune, I-No and Chipp Zanuff among many more.
