Kingdra used Twister by Kenisu-of-Dragons

I chose Kingdra because it is my favorite water pokemon. It has a unique set up. It’s a dragon and a seahorse. Also I wanted to give it a pose I haven’t seen it do before, other than the usual pose. I thought I could make it move more flexible. I chose twister because it just like a very satisfying looking effect. The brush strokes just flowed so naturally.

Kenisu-of-Dragons from the United States came across our Pokemon Tribute in July 2016 and liked the idea to draw a Pokemon performing one of its moves. In the end he drew not only Kadabra and Rhydon but also picked Mewtwo‘s 2nd spot quickly and returned with Kingdra in our second part of the Project!

You can see his whole gallery here.

Twister

“The user whips up a vicious tornado to tear at the opposing team. It may also make targets flinch”

The Twister is a Dragon-Type attack that was introduced in Generation II and has also a 20% chance to cause Flich for the opponent. Its power is doubled if the opposing Pokemon was in the semi-invulnerable turns of Fly, Bounce and Sky Drop.

Only Kingdra is using Twister in our Tribute so far.

Kingdra used Hidden Power by CyanOnion

Well, this is a weird and a bit sad case. The artist who drew Kingdraw and also Shuckle deleted his/her deviantart account and left without mentioning any reasons. It was pure luck that the illustrations were still online at that time.

Hidden Power

“A unique attack that varies in type depending on the Pokémon using it.”

Hidden Power is a damage-dealing Normal-type move first introduced in generation II. It surprisingly is the only move that Unown can learn, but it cannot learn it through TM, due to the fact that it naturally will know this move so cannot relearn it!

The type and power of the move will depend on the Pokemon’s IVs and varies between a power of 30 and 70. It has a PP of 15 and an accuracy of 100%.

#230 Kingdra

“It sleeps quietly, deep on the seafloor. When it comes up to the surface, it creates a huge whirlpool that can swallow even ships”

Kingdra is a Water/Dragon type Pokemon and one based off a weedy sea dragon in appearance while also sharing similar features with a seahorse. Its name is likely to be a combination of ‘king’ and ‘dragon’.

Kindra evolves from Seadra when levelled up holding a Dragon Scale. Its yawn is so powerful it has said that it can produce ripples in the water that destroy ships.

In the Pokemon movie ‘Spell of the Unown’, Molly Hale creates an imaginary Kingdra in Entei’s dream world to battle against Misty. Clair, a gym leader owns and uses a Kingdra to battle with.
