Klaptrap from DKC Donkey Kong Country Fan ArtKlaptrap, the smallest but also the fastest of the Kremlings in the classic Donkey Kong Country games, drawn by FischHead.

Instead of writing something I let the artist do the talking, he is drawing a whole series of the Kremlings from the DKC games currently:

“Originally, I wasn’t going to distinguish between Klaptraps and Klampons, but since they have different names and behavior, I decided to take a shot at re-imagining both. In my design, Klaptraps are small amphibious creatures with webbed feet, a minnow-like tail, and the bite force of a great white shark.

Their outrageously high metabolism requires them to eat nearly thirty times their own weight in a day, and their short lifespan is a blessing because unrestrained congregations of these hyperactive reptiles can throw their ecosystem wildly out of balance. These nigh-brainless gators have even been known to bite off their own tongues in a feeding frenzy.

K. Rool attempted using the unruly Klaptraps and Klampons in his army before settling on the much more loyal Krimp found in the Northern Kremisphere. In addition, a successful cross-breeding experiment with these Krimps resulted in a more intelligent, and very canine variety of Klaptrap used in more recent invasions of Kong Island.”
