The RPG Video Game Art Challenge on Game-Art-HQ: Rufus from Final Fantasy VII
The Game-Art-HQ Art Challenges are both a Challenge and a Community Project that is organized through our Group on DeviantART.
GA-HQ Community Members can either claim a game or a game character of their choice if it is related to the Art Challenge Theme or get a selection of three games or characters picked for them
An RPG Art Challenge without any submissions related to Final Fantasy VII is just impossible. It would be incomplete and miss a game that was kinda a revolution for RPG’s back in the mid nineties. FFVII was very different looking and playing than the other popular JRPG’s before and set many new standards for the genre.
But seeing another Cloud or Tifa fan art would be a bit boring, so I gave Amanda J. Belaire a FFVII choice (She asked for a Challenge) with Rufus from the Shinra Corporation. He is an important part of the story in the game but is a rather weak antagonist compared with Sephiroth and Jenova of course, and Rufus is relative rarely drawn in comparison to those two.
Amanda did not only draw Rufus there but also the Turks that are hunting Cloud and the rest of the party through the game.
“I’m happy with how Rufus came out in general. I’m “meh” about the background, but I feel it’s a better effort than what I’ve done in the past.
My colouring is still not where I want it to be, but I’ve not been able to get a lot of practice these past few months due to medical issues. Excuses, excuses.”
Would say she absolutely mastered this art challenge as well!
