This is the Naval Piranha, the Boss of the third World in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island.

Kamek used his magic on a small Piranha Plant to transform it into this mighty boss.

Yoshi can actually defeat this small Piranha Plant with a well placed egg-throw which skips the whole boss battle!

Our illustration of the Naval Piranha has actually a not so funny background story.

Back in July-October 2013 we organized an art contest at deviantART about recreating a screenshot from a game through a drawn illustration. Scott Maynard from the UK was going to submit this piece to the contest but broke his leg before it was finished and was not able to submit it to dA weeks after the contest was done already.

Back when I organized Mario’s Blacklist I asked Scott about using the image in the project!
