Alex Kidd in Miracle World was the probably most popular game on the Sega Master System and starred Alex Kidd, Sega’s answer to Nintendo’s Mario. Alex had to fight his way through relative complex stages, had to punch, kick, dive, race and even to fly in a helicopter.

The Alex Kidd games were quite innovative and full of funny ideas but it seems Sega never found Alex Kidd cool enough to make them their official mascot. And while he got 6 games in only 4 years, Alex was replaced with Sonic the Hedgehog and did not return before he played a minor role in Segaga and told the player his sad story there.

At around 2003-2005 there were rumors about a remake of Alex Kidd in Miracle World as part of the Sega Ages 2500 game series on the Playstation 2, the game was even listed by some retailers already in Japan but it was cancelled..according to rumors because bad quality.

It took Sega 18! years to make Alex Kidd a playable character again and again it was just a minor role in Sega Superstars Tennis where Alex can be unlocked as a tennis player. Two years later, Alex returned in Sonic & All-Stars Racing and its sequel Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed where he was again only an unlockable character.

In June 2020, Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX was announced, a Remake of the Original that will be released in 2021.

I really wonder why Sega is not developing at least a small digital only Alex Kidd game, a lot of us would sure remember the old games and buy it if its well done.

Some of the fans made spectacular artworks of him however which are putting all illustrations by Sega to shame, take a look at them below!
