The Change from Sub Zero to Noob Saibot Fan Art by Toby Burns

Sub Zero’s change from a bad guy to a good guy was partially explained in Mortal Kombat II already if you played through the game with SZ there and it was revealed that the Cyromancer from the first Mortal Kombat game was actually killed. But was the older Sub Zero really dead? And who was this dark warrior by the name Noob Saibot who was still able to shoot ice back when he was a secret opponent in Mortal Kombat II?

Around 15 years later, the whole thing was finally explained in a vignette trailer of Sub Zero for Mortal Kombat 9 in 2011. Quan Chi the evil sorccerer and expert in manipulating both friends and enemies equally was behind it and changed Sub Zero to Noob Saibot to use him as an ally and weapon in the future.

This moment was illustrated here by Toby Burns from Australia who is a big fan of the Mortal Kombat series just like myself, he wrote:

“My idea of Sub-Zero after his defeat at the hands of Scorpion, decending into the Netherrealm to be transformed into Noob Saibot by the Sorcerer Quan Chi.””

to describe his fan art there, and i believe he captured that moment very well.

Toby drew a lot more Mortal Kombat related fan art which you can see there on his gallery on deviantART including Blaze from MKDA which is part of our big Mortal Kombat Art Tribute gallery.
