Saisyu Kusanagi is a playable character from the King of Fighters games by SNK. He debuted in the first KOF game, The King of Fighters ’94 as a part of the background story already. In The King of Fighters ’95, Saisyu is a Mid Boss character that can be unlocked via code.

He became a regular character for the first time in The King of Fighters ’98 as part of the Masters Team and appeared only in ports and other “Dream Match” KOF games like KOF Neowave (2004) and the remakes of KOF’94 and 98 as a playable character again. Saisyu also made cameo appearances as part of the background stages or the endings in more recent parts of the series including The King of Fighters XIV (2016).

Saisyu is the father of the series main protagonist, Kyo Kusanagi. He was defeated by Rugal Bernstein and barely survived the encounter. The reason for him being a mid boss in KOF’95 was that he was brainwashed by Rugal’s “Secretary” Vice actually.
