Spyro debuted as the main protagonist in Spyro the Dragon (1998) on the Playstation and around seven sequels and spinoff games not made by Insomniac anymore and released on multiple systems. Spyro became also the main protagonist again in the “Legend of Spyro” reboot trilogy of the series. Like Crash Bandicoot the copyrights of Spyro and his games belong to Activision now.

The company discontinued making Spyro the Dragon games but developed the Skylanders series of role-playing /platform games that features Spyro as one of the main characters.

Spyro is also an unlockable character in the Game Boy Advance version of Crash Nitro Cart (2003).

2018 Update: After the big success of the Crash Bandicoot Remaster Trilogy it was only a matter of time before Activision would announce a Spyro the Dragon Trilogy it seemed for months, but it finally happened in April 2018 when the Spyro Reignited Trilogy was revealed.

Spyro is a playable character in Crash Team Racing: Nitro Refueled (2019) that also has a racing track based on the classic Spyro games and it looks like we might see a new Spyro game soon as well.
