Back when Konami was a really cool company, they developed Axelay, a 2d shoo’t em up for the Super Nintendo and released it in September 1992. It is one of the few shoot’em ups that used the Mode 7 effects on the system to create the illusion of 3d graphics in the game. Axelay had both vertical and horizontal scrolling stages and an excellent boss design.

A sequel was once planned as seen after the ending of the game, but it never happened. It was re-released as a virtcual console game for Wii and Wii U.
