Sandslash used Fury Swipes by Weaselpa

Weaselpa aka Panagiotis Vlamis is one of the two artists from Greece in our Pokémon tribute and was one of the first artists who joined it when we announced it on the 29th April. His take on Sandslash using the Fury Swipes move was actually the first of the over 300 illustrations that were created for this project.

Panagiotis is a contributing member of our community since around July 2015 when he contributed a very unusual illustration of a Samurai Shodown character to our GA-HQ Project. Since than, he submitted artworks to many of our art collaborations including Link’s Blacklist and the Nintendo 64 Anniversary Tribute in summer 2016.

You can see a ton of great video game art among other stuff on his gallery at dA here!

“The target is scratched by sharp claws two to five times in quick succession.“

Fury Swipes is a multi-strike Normal-Type move introduced in Generation I. It shares similarities with another move called Fury Attack.

The user of this move strikes the opponent 2-5 in succession with its sharp claws. Though the number of swipes vary per use; the chance of landing a Critical Hit can only happen on the first swipe.

Nicholas “Alternate” Schwarz from Peru is also a Game-Art-HQ Member since 2015, but his take on Sandslash was his first time he participated in one of our art collaborations.

He drews a lot of different stuff including video game fan art of his favourite games like Metroid (*5*!) You can see his gallery on dA here!

“The foe is attacked with sharp claws. It may also lower the foe’s Defense.“

Crush Claw is a Normal-Type move introduced in Generation III. Originally the signature move of Zangoose, other Pokemon with equally sharp claws can learn it and reap its benefits.

The biggest benefit of Crush Claw other than the massive damage it can inflict, the biggest benefit is the chance that the opponent’s defense will be suddenly lowered. There is a 50% chance of this happening.

“Curls up into a spiny ball when threatened. It can roll while curled up to attack or escape”

Sandslash is a quill covered Ground-Type Pokemon found primarily in deserts. It is the final form of Sandshrew starting at Level 22.

Evolved with much longer and sharper claws than its previous form, it can tear through the earth and its opponents much more efficiently. It also has the ability to climb other areas like trees to ambush intruders/prey. Like Sandshrew, it will receive an Ice/Steel type variation in Pokemon Moon/Sun.
