Sandshrew used Defense Curl by Bernuviel

Bernuviel from Switzerland joined the Pokémon Tribute with her take on the cute Eevee back in May already and continued with Bellsprout and finally the Defense Curl using Sandshrew. She draws a ton of different stuff, including more video game art as well, I recommend to have a look at her gallery on dA here!

“The user curls up to conceal weak spots and raise its Defense stat.“

Defense Curl is a Normal-Type defense move introduced in Generation I. It was then reintroduced in Generation II as TM Move TM40.

The user of this move curls up into a defensive position which then allows the user’s Defense stats to go up in battle by 1 level. Other moves like Rollout can have their attack power increased when Defense Curl is activated.

“The target is attacked with a slash of claws or blades. Critical hits land more easily.”

Slash is a rather common move found amongst a great deal of Pokemon. With a hit rate of 100% and a power stat of 70, it is a hard-hitting Normal-Type move that can inflict critical damage more easily. Most Pokemon who possess sharp claws have or can learn this move.

“Burrows deep underground in arid locations far from water. It only emerges to hunt for food”

An armadillo-like Pokemon, Sandshrew is a Ground-Type Pokemon found primarily in deserts. It evolves into Sandshrew at Level 22.

Both a biped and quadruped, Sandshrew spends most of its life burrowed underground for both protection and waiting to ambush its prey. It’s main method of defense in battle is curling up into a ball as well as hurling sand at its attackers to impair their vision. In the upcoming Pokemon Moon/Sun; an Ice/Steel-Type variant found in snowy areas will be added.
