Kirby 64 for the Nintendo 64 Tribute by Brendan Corris

“This sure sat for a really long time. Here’s my contribution for the Nintendo 64 20th Anniversary Tribute at Game Art HQ

I volunteered to do my second favorite N64 game (my favorite being, of course, Ocarina of Time), Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. This is sort of a mish mash of ideas from two unfinished Kirby drawings from a couple years ago. I had planned to do a handful of Kirby pics a couple summers back, and although the old drawings were too bad to use, I mixed ideas from the two to come up with this.

I really like the way Adeline and Dedede came out, which is fitting, bing that they’re my favorite Kirby character”

” The freaking Best Kirby game, with the best Kirby boss, with the best boss music of all time. AW… YEAH!!!! FREAKING KIRBY 64 FOR THE WIN!!!

This youtube thing has only been going on for a month, that’s so short, and yet it feels like “Wow it’s already been a month :U” And already it feels like I’m getting better with speedpainting! Faster and better! WOO!!! I made this in only 3 and a half hours!!! MMMMMFFFFFFF

Do you realize how lightning fast that is for me?! some artists will take like an hour to do something liek this but, I’m slow ok? I use to take like 12 or even more than 24 hours on a single picture so like, this is like super sonic speed for me and I love it and I’m not rushing it either, so I’m super happy!!! Also, still trying to work on Composition and stuff as well, with like, good impacting set ups and stuff, and depth. lol so, yeah

oh man this picture was just like, red on red on red and on more red. like, cuz the fairy chick is red and pink. Kirby is red and pink, and 02 is Red and white, with a dark background that is ALL RED!!! So. like dang lolol I didn’t have much to balance out the picture, so I tried to bring out the purple/blue while still making it fit under the deep and dark red hue and lighting.

I’m not sure if I succeeded lol. but yeah hahaha but either wy I’m still super happy with this piece, and  I LOVE how scared the fairy chick looks XD hahaha she makes me happy by her terrified expression hahaha yisss XD (I am not a sadist…)  I also really waned to cram the picture, and make it really chaotic, but still clear enough to see 02, and of course the main focus of the piece which is Kirby and the fairy chick, very visible and clear. again idk if I succeeded but lol. lol I tried. “

Kirby 64 The Crystal Shards was the first Kirby game since Kirby Superstar on the SNES in 1996 and was released in March 2000 in Japan, June 2000 in the USA and eventually also released in Europe a whole year later.

The game is a 2D platformer like the previous Kirby games but it also used the third dimension, mostly for the graphics similar to Klonoa on the Playstation.
