The GA-HQ Final Fantasy Art Tribute - Those Who Fight Further

Lulu the Black Mage from Final Fantasy

Lulu-Final-Fantasy-X-HD-Screenshot

Lulu from Final Fantasy X takes the Black Mage role in the game until those abilities are available on the sphereboard for the others too, she is an almost always very calm and sometimes a bit arrogant personality who rarely smiles..and seems to be bitter about past as well as upcoming events in the story of FFX.

Its great to see this strong character as one of the first ten illustrated by the Game-Art-HQ Community for our big Final Fantasy Art Collaboration about the many protagonists of the FF series!

by Ed Moffatt, Darren Rhym and MDVillarreal

Why did you choose Lulu?

I picked LuLu because she’s my favourite character in Final Fantasy X!

It’s partly because a lot of the other characters are *very* annoying, but also because her dress is made of belts and she uses a little puppet as a weapon. Awesome.

What do you like about Lulu and about FFX?

Lulu is the cool headed, sensible one in FFX, and I found she really balanced out how over the top and annoying some of the other characters are. She’s also a black mage, which is always cool.

To be honest, FFX was not one of my favourite Final Fantasies first time round, but I picked a character from it because I’m looking forward to giving it another chance with the HD remake coming to Vita!

What tools did you use for the artwork?
I drew this entirely in Photoshop, with a Wacom Cintiq 12wx drawing tablet.

Lulu Final Fantasy Art Tribute

Lulu’s character and design is very “rigid” – her hair and outfit must take hours to carefully sculpt into the right shape every morning!

As such, I wanted to do a piece with her looking a lot less harsh: relaxing and letting her down for a change!

What do you like about Lulu and about FFX?

I liked her personality and style, i’m usually a fan of the more serious characters in games.  I see her as being the big sister or motherly type, as she’s always keeping people in line and being responsible.

She’s experienced, serious, and pretty damn sexy XD.

The thing I liked most about FFX definitely had to be blitzball… so many hours wasted… Nah but I liked the setting and the characters a lot. I loved how the game was placed in the future, but there weren’t any huge cities, and everything was covered by nature in some way. While the technology was really advanced, people still lived simply.

(I know Sin was the cause of this, but It was still an interesting society to explore) The music and the new level system with the sphere grid were great as well.

What tools did you use for the artwork?
I painted her in Photoshop CS5, with a few layers, and a few simple brushes.

I’d like to say that I’ll probably do a re-paint in the future, I can probably do a better job of capturing her character, and in a non-cliche way.

Lulu Final Fantasy Art Tribute 3

Why did you choose Lulu?
I chose Lulu because she was one of my favorite characters from Final Fantasy X.

What do you like about her and about FFX?
I like Lulu’s costume design and her overall look. It’s been a long time since I played FFX, so I don’t recall much about her as a character.

With regards to FFX itself, I enjoyed some of the characters it introduced like Auron, Lulu, and Kimahri.Never cared much for blitzball though. haha

What tools did you use for the artwork?
Like all my art works it was first composed as a sketch done with .5mm mechanical pencil on paper. This particular image was done on 11″x14″ sketching paper which was scanned, cleaned, adjusted, and ultimately colorized in Photoshop.

If you like my work on Lulu, please check out some of my other pieces at my dA gallery!
