Spawn from Todd McFarlane in Video Games
Spawn is a comic character that debuted in May 1992 and got his first video game just three years later already with Todd McFarlane’s Spawn: The Video Game on the Super Nintendo, a beat’em up published by Sony actually as one of their last games for a Nintendo console. The next game was Spawn: The Eternal (1997) for the Sony Playstation, developed by Sony Computer Entertainment. Both games received mediocre review scores (they are both really bad) but a third Spawn game named Spawn: In the Demon’s Hand was developed by Capcom and released for the Arcades (1999) and ported to the Sega Dreamcast in 2000. This game did a completely different approach and can be described as a mix of a third person shooter and a brawler. The still last Spawn video game is Spawn: Armageddon (2003) for the PS2, Xbox and the Nintendo Gamecube. Developed by Point of View (Defunct since 2010) for Namco. This game received mixed reviews as well but some sites like IGN gave it scores above a 7,5 at least. Spawn was also a playable guest character in Namco’s Xbox port of SoulCalibur II (2003) and became playable on the PS3 as well when the company re-released the game as a HD remaster in 2013. Spawn was revealed to return as a playable character in a fighting game as part of the Kombat Pack I for Mortal Kombat XI (2019) and joined the cast of the game in spring 2020. |
